Master peace
I recently came to know that there is a woman who designed packaging for some products at my place of employment called “Master’s Touch”. At first I didn’t really think much about it when I saw the name, but then it started me thinking about how important The Master’s touch is in our lives.
The word “master” is one used many times in the Bible. But, where we will spend our time today is in the New Testament surrounding Jesus.
I looked up:
Topical Encyclopedia in Bible Hub
The term "Master" in the Bible is used in various contexts, often denoting authority, ownership, or a position of leadership. It is a title that reflects respect and recognition of one's role or status.
Continuing on down in Bible Hub it shares this:
Jesus as Master
Jesus Christ is frequently referred to as "Master" by His disciples and followers, signifying their recognition of His authority and their commitment to His teachings. In John 13:13-14, Jesus Himself acknowledges this title: "You call Me Teacher and Lord, and rightly so, because I am. So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet." Here, Jesus uses the title to teach humility and service, demonstrating that true mastery involves serving others.
As we see here the Master is the teacher AND the participator.
Jesus gave us so many examples of his teachings, but he also demonstrated those teachings in practical life scenerios every day he was on the earth. Some were simple and some were thought pervokers. When he had come to the end of his journey on earth, he said he must go away but that he would send another Teacher.
1John 2:27b The Holy Spirit is able to teach you all things. What He teaches you is truth and not a lie. Live by the help of Christ as the Holy Spirit has taught you.
I’ve heard people in my life say things about their teachers at school. Some good and some bad. But I’ve never heard anyone say to me that the Holy Spirit is a bad teacher. Nope! I can’t say I have.
I’ve heard some people say they are slow learners, and you’re actually hearing from one right now. I know I have the best Master in the universe of life teaching me. But sometimes, I need to be taught several times until I really know what the Master Teacher is wanting me to know.
The cool thing about Him, is that he just keeps on teachin! He doesn’t flunk me or send me to the lower class, huh-uh, he pulls up a chair right next to me and get hands on in his teaching. He picks up the pen, he writes out the problem and then shows me how he solves it.
So, here is how I saw this on display at my place of employment the other day. I had a very kind woman want to return some items to our store. She handed me not one, not two but there were three receipts and over 25+ items. As I look at these papers and the things in front of me, I have to tell you, it was a little overwhelming. But, I looked to my inner Teacher, through prayer and started the process. As I began to find my way, the quantities of returns wasn’t just what was at hand, it was more that not everything was being returned that was on the receipts, which began to be a jumbled mess in the process. I did what I thought was right, but the situation quickly started heading south. The further I got in, the more difficult it got. A couple of times, I’d look up at the woman and say, “thank you for your patience, as I’m still in a learning time”. She was very sweet and affirming and she would say things like “In the scope of things, this is very small”. After about 20 minutes of doing all the steps I knew, I stopped and knew that I had to call in my floor manager over to help me. She quickly responded and began kindly asking me questions about what was the issue and where was I in the process? I began to explain and told her I didn’t know how to move forward. She asked me to let her step into the space to handle the rest of the transaction, I felt relief! as I was confident in her ability and I watched how she proceeded to return the items. She was as cool as a cucumber through it, and I learned alot that day by watching and listening to her as she navigated through these waters.
At the end, she finished by encouraging me with “you did what you had been taught you, but this took a very special way of doing the returns, because of the quantity and several receipts”. The next time…. and then she taught me something new.
She could have just stood by, saying, “I’ve already taught her this” or “She should know this”. But she didn’t do that. As a teacher, she calmly, assessed where I was at and asked to step in and then she served me and the woman. It was beautiful!
So, the next time you find yourself thinking that you’ve either learned all you need to, or beat yourself up for not learning fast enough or any other thing that sounds like that, just remember, humility is where we learn from best. Not everyone learns the same, but everyone has to be humble and to say the words “I don’t know”. Then the Holy Spirit, our Master Teacher can present things to us, sometimes in a new way. He knows how to teach and he knows how we learn best. Difficulty brings things to the surface in our lives and the Holy Spirit uses those things to help us to look to Him for Help! He’s the only who can Save us, He’s the only one who can Rescue us in our trouble.
In His Love and Patience,
